CJ Resident Critically Injured When He Crashed into Tree off US Highway 199
A Cave Junction man was critically injured when he crashed his vehicle into a tree off Redwood Highway at the southern outskirts of the city late last week.
The Oregon State Police reports troopers and emergency personnel responded to the single-vehicle accident in the 500-block of South Redwood Highway on Friday around 1 p.m..
Troopers said 46-year-old Benjamin Jensen was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 pickup north when the vehicle crossed over the southbound travel lane, left the highway, went through a grass field, up an embankment and collided head-on with a tree.
According to OSP, Jensen was the lone occupant of the vehicle. After extrication from the wreckage, he was transported to Jubilee Park where he was airlifted by Mercy Flights helicopter to Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford. At last report, he was in critical condition.
Redwood Highway traffic was reduced to one lane while the scene was active. The badly damaged pickup was hauled away by Jerry's Towing. OSP was also assisted by the Illinois Valley Fire District, American Medical Response and the Josephine County Sheriff's Office.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
