Grants Pass Man Nabbed for Weapon & Driving Violations at Redwood Bar

A Grants Pass man was jailed for weapon and driving violations last night after he was contacted by police at a Redwood area watering hole.

Grants Pass Police arrested 36-year-old James Duane Haer at the Lucky Duck in the 1700-block of Redwood Avenue on Monday at 10:24 p.m..

Police said they observed Haer driving his mother's Chrysler PT Cruiser and it was known that his driving privileges had been suspended. They contacted him inside the tavern while he was gambling and advised him that he was being detained, at which point he asked officers if they knew that he carried a firearm.

Haer reportedly consented to the removal of his firearm -- a .40-caliber Smith and Wesson MP Shield -- which was concealed on his hip under his oversized shirt. He did not have a concealed weapons permit, so he was placed into custody.

James Haer was lodged at the Josephine County Jail for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Driving While Suspended. The gun was seized as evidence.
