This week we are proud to recognize Grants Pass High School Junior, Houston Ely.
Houston Ely, a 17-year-old junior at Grants Pass High School who plays safety for the Caveman football team, is our Athlete of the Week. However, football is not the only competitive endeavor for Houston. Racing as a rookie in the Cal-Ore River Racers Regatta in the Tom Rice Memorial Whitewater Race during the Boatnik Festival, Houston edged all the established racers and won. It was the first Boatnik victory for the family of racers that included Houston's Father and Grandfather. Winning the race is a testament to Houston's athleticism. The race requires not just boat handling but physical strength, endurance, and focus to get to the checkered flag.
