GP Boys & Girls Post Conference Wins, Valley Schools Results

The Grants Pass Cavemen opened Southwest Conference basketball competition last night at Heater-Newman Gym and handed the North Medford BlackTornado a 63 to 43 loss. The game was close with multiple lead changes in the 1st quarter before GP turned up their defense to lead by seven at the half. Then the Cavemen dominated the 3rd quarter scoring and eased to the 20 point win.

Luke Morgan lead a balanced scoring attack with 17 points while Payton Bruner added 13, Tyler McIntosh 11 and Gavin McLean contributed 10. The win pushes Grants Pass’s record to 7 and 6 overall. The Cavemen will host the Willamette Wolverines boys and girls Thursday in a game that was rescheduled from Friday due to inclement weather forecasts. The boy’s game tips at seven and will be broadcast live on KAJO.

The Lady Cavers started league play with a 43 to 29 win at North Medford. Grants Pass is now 8 and 5 overall, and are currently ranked #12 in the OSAA rankings. The Lady Cavers will also host Willamette Thursday with their game slated to tip off at 5:30 p.m.

North Valley ended a 3 game losing skid with a 67 to 33 win over Rogue River in Merlin last night. The Knights are now 2 and 2 in Far West League play.

The Lady Knights improved to 10 and 3 overall with a 46 to 18 Far West League win over Rogue River.

The Illinois Valley vs Reedsport, and New Hope vs Days Creek basketball games were both canceled last night due to inclement weather.
