Local H.S. Football Playoff Schedule

In local High School football playoff action tonight there is one game at the 6A level in which South Medford hosts conference foe North Salem at Spiegelberg Stadium with the kick off at 6 p.m. Grants Pass defeated North Salem in the regular season but lost to South Medford.

Other action involving local teams includes the 8th ranked North Valley Knights traveling to top ranked Banks at six o’clock.

7th ranked Vale travels to the Rogue Valley to challenge 2nd ranked Cascade Christian tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Crater High School.

Six Cavemen Football Players Named to All=Conference Team

Although the Grants Pass football team struggled this year with lots of young, inexperienced players, several drew All Conference recognition.

Leading the way being named to the defensive second team was line backer Bruxton Leair. Earning defensive honorable mentions were defensive lineman Conner Johnston and defensive backs Cole Carnes and Teshome Dawson.

On the offensive side of the football was Bruxton’s brother guard Austin Leair, along with tackle Dante Pierced and tight end Conner Johnston, who was also named on the defensive side.

Friday Night Football has GP at Liberty High in Quest of the Columbia Cup

The Grants Pass Cavemen open their quest for the Columbia Cup tonight against the 17th ranked Liberty Falcons in Hillsboro. The young Cavemen, who have struggled throughout the season, are ranked 32nd, and drew a playoff berth due to the strength of their schedule, arguably one of the toughest in the state. The game will be broadcast on KAJO with the pregame at 6;30 for a seven o’clock kickoff.

Other conference teams in competition for the Columbia Cup includes South Medford hosting Jefferson and North Salem at Grant. The 6A championship bracket pairs West Salem at West Linn,Sheldon at Lakeridge, North Medford at Central Catholic and South Salem hosting Tigard

GP Cavemen Host Roseburg on Senior Night with Playoff Implications

The Grants Pass Cavemen conclude their regular season football schedule tonight at Mel Ingram Field by hosting long-time rival Roseburg.

The game, in addition to being Senior Night for the Cavemen, has playoff implications. The statewide OSAA rankings have been on a roller coaster this week as results of out of state contests played by Oregon teams trickle into the OSAA and are plugged into the weighted ranking formula.

The Cavemen were ranked 27th prior to the Sheldon game last Friday. In spite of the loss the Cavemen were ranked 25th on Saturday, and as more results came in the Cavemen were elevated to 23rd, which earns a home playoff game. A check of the rankings this morning showed Grants Pass back to 25th and a road playoff game.

A win tonight against the 35th ranked Indians might move GP up one spot which would be a home game.

Tonight’s contest will be broadcast on KAJO with the pregame airing at 6:30 prior to the seven o’clock kickoff.

Caveman Football Head Coach Brad Page is the featured Coach Wednesday night for the Abby’s Pizza Caveman Corner airing live at 6:30 from the Beacon Drive Abby’s Pizza.

Appearing with Coach Page will be Senior Lineman Ian Townes, Senior wide receiver Cole Carnes and Senior defensive back Andrew Hampton.

The Southwest Conference All League Soccer & Volleyball Teams Announced

The Southwest Conference All League Soccer and Volleyball teams have been announced and Grants Pass High School is well represented.

Grants Pass Senior Soccer Goalie Abbigail Michael was named to the Girls first team along with Senior forward Brooke Anderson and Junior defender Kenzie Kleiner. Jayden Gamboa drew an Honorable Mention.

Two Juniors were named to the boy’s second team, Adrian Anaya and Jared Hatt. Junior Tyler McIntosh drew an honorable mention.
