A Jackson County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue (SAR) member was named "Volunteer of the Year" during an awards ceremony held earlier this month.

Scott Rayburn received the award from the Oregon State Sheriff's Association Search & Rescue Advisory Council for outstanding professional achievement and accomplishment.

Since joining Jackson County SAR in January 2017, Rayburn has been on 161 missions, totaling over 2,800 mission hours. After joining SAR, he quickly became a key member of the unit.

Rayburn has exhibited strong leadership skills and unparalleled attention to detail as an outstanding Team Leader and Search Manager. He has given freely of his time as a volunteer, taking on the management and operations of running an SAR academy twice every year.

Sheriff's officials said a successful academy is critical to the long-term health of an SAR unit and Rayburn gives 100% every time, without fail.

Rayburn is a long-time member of the Technical Rope Rescue Team, ATV and Large Animal Rescue teams, and he has served as vice president of the SAR Executive Board for two years. He has also obtained advanced medical training in the form of Wilderness First Aid and Wilderness First Responder.

Congratulations Scott Rayburn for this well-deserved honor!
