Medford Casino Plans Almost Certain to Generate Lawsuits

The Cow Creek Band of the Umpqua Indian Tribe told a Medford Audience that if the Secretary of Interior approves the Coquille Indian Tribe’s request to place recent land purchases in Medford in federal trust they would immediately file a lawsuit.

Conversely, if the Secretary declines the Coquille’s request, they would immediately file a lawsuit.

In early September the Coquille tribe, who operated the Mill Casino in North Bend, purchased Roxy Ann Lanes and the former Kim’s restaurant with the ultimate goal of establishing a casino.

The Cow Creek Band, who operate 7 Feathers Casino, predict if the Coquille Casino is approved they, in addition to The Siletz, Grand Ronde, and Klamath tribes would all build casinos in Medford.

The Cow Creeks contend Medford is not Coquille territory, although the Coquilles noted Jackson County is part of their designated service area.
