Early Thursday Fire Destroys Mobile Home

An early morning fire destroyed a mobile home and resulted in one man being taken to Three Rivers Medical Center.

Rural Metro Fire Department responded to the 2:06 a.m. fire at 917 Galice Road in Merlin to find a single wide mobile home owned by Roy Boyer, fully engulfed in flames.

One victim was on the ground away from the structure and firefighters began emergency care until the arrival of the A.M.R. ambulance. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital.

The victim is a friend of Boyer’s and his medical status is unknown at this time. Interviews on the scene indicate Boyer got his friend out the window and then exited himself with the help of neighbors.

Smoke alarms were in place but never activated.

A 5th wheel travel trailer and two vehicles suffered minor damage.

The flames were knocked down after about 40 minutes but the home was a total loss. No cause has been determined but the investigation has been referred to the state fire marshal’s office and the Oregon State Police. That is standard protocol when an injury is involved with a fire.
