Subaru Lifted from the Depths of the Rogue River

The 2010 Subaru driven into the Rogue River in a suicide attempt in March of 2011 was finally lifted from the river Tuesday morning by a Sikorsky heavy lift helicopter and dropped into a nearby field to be towed away.

Kate McKay Boone, then 36, drove the car into the river in an attempted suicide but swam to safety when the car began to sink. She was fined $135.

Boone’s insurance company, Progressive, and the state negotiated the safest way to remove the car was by helicopter and the Sikorsky had been fighting wildfires in California until recently and afforded a window of opportunity.

The operation cost between $11,000 and $15,000.
