Public Safety awards man for saving 89-year-old woman from fire

The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety is awarding the “Public Safety Honor Citation” to Daron Dawson for saving an 89-year-old woman from fire on Aug. 24.

Dawson noticed smoke coming from a home in the Bryn Court neighborhood while he was driving to work on Williams Highway. He deviated from his route to investigate and found the home of Martha Tankersley on fire.

Tankersley had become disoriented in the smoke filled home. Dawson located her inside the residence and carried her to safety.

Paramedics on scene determined Tankersley was within minutes of succumbing to the fire.

Public Safety will award Dawson at the City Council Workshop held this coming Monday at 11:45 a.m. in Council Chambers at 101 N.W. A Street.
