Unemployment rate increases slightly in Josephine County

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased slightly from July to August by inching up from 12 to 12.1 percent.

According to a release from the Oregon Employment Department, construction, leisure and hospitality, health care and social assistance posted 20 additional jobs each. The county lost 10 state government jobs but gained 30 in local government education.

The largest job gains over the year were in leisure and hospitality, retail trade and professional and business services. The most job losses were in local government, federal government and construction.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is .7 percent lower than it was at this time last year.
