Michelon to Reconsider Water Rate Vote

City Councilman Richard Michelon served notice during the Monday workshop he wants to re-consider his vote on the city water rate increase. The Councilman outlined his reasons, “A. We didn’t get all our options. B. There were some discrepancies in the information that was provided. Lastly, I think there are other choices that were not shared with us.”

Michelon will formerly raise the question of re-consideration during the October 3rd council meeting and if the council agrees, a vote could be taken that night.

The Historic Buildings and Sites Commission also made a presentation at the workshop outlining their 2012 goals that include updating the historic landmark inventory, expanding the historic district and completing the steps necessary to re-submit an application to become a Certified Local Government with the state.

Councilors supported most of the Commission’s goals but balked at the Certification, fearing restrictions might not be conducive to local businesses. They asked for more clarification.

Council also received a cost estimate of $24,000 total cost if the city had to pay for total installation of the proposed gateway entry at exit 55. It’s believed the Committee on Public Art may have significant volunteer support to defray much of the cost.
