Two Wildland Fires Break Out Sunday

A new fire was reported at 6:30 Sunday night in the Rogue River Wild and Scenic area, about a half mile downstream from the Grave Creek boat landing. The fire was report at approximately 4 acres and is burning in a steep, heavily forested area near the Rogue River Trail.

Crews were immediately building fire lines and awaiting daybreak when they can get helicopter support.

Earlier Sunday a fire broke out seven miles east of Butte Falls, just off Rancheria Road.

A trio of bulldozers completed a fire line around the 32 acre fire before sundown and overnight crews are continuing to run hoses around the fire extinguishing hot spots. Those crews will be replaced this morning.

The fire is burning in Ponderosa Pine and Douglas fir on BLM land.

The cause is being investigated. There are no structures threatened and no injuries have been reported.
