S.O.S. accepting household hazardous waste Saturday
Southern Oregon Sanitation is holding a hazardous waste collection event at 1381 Redwood Ave. in Grants Pass from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
Improper disposal of household hazardous waste such as pouring chemicals down drains, onto the ground or into storm drains can threaten the environment and human health.
Items accepted include: cleaning supplies, pesticides and insecticides, swimming pool chemicals, weed killers, paint removers, wood preservatives, fluorescent light ballasts, batteries and thermostats containing mercury.
Items that will not be accepted include: latex paints, explosives, radioactive materials, ammunition, medical waste, industrial waste, waste in containers larger than five gallons, fire extinguishers, propane tanks, asbestos or lead and oil-based paint.
