Thousands of rubber ducks prepped for exodus down Rogue River

Thousands of rubber ducks are prepped and ready for the 2012 Grants Pass Rotary Duck Race.

Approximately 9,000 ducks have been purchased and Gene “Grandpa Duck” Kettwig says the push to sell as many ducks as possible continues till 5:00 p.m. today.

The race begins at noon Saturday when the ducks get dumped off of the Debbs Potts Memorial Bridge and float to the finish line at Riverside Park.

Proceeds from the event go to the Josephine County Food Bank and toward building a new track facility at Illinois Valley High School.

To allow for the race, the Rogue River will be closed to watercraft and recreational use from Debbs Potts Bridge and Baker Park to the 7th Street Bridge from 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
