ODF Attacks Seats Dam Fire-UPDATED

The Oregon Department of Forestry is attacking a one acre fire near Seats dam, about six miles southwest of Cave Junction, west of Highway 199, about a half mile up Rough and Ready Creek.

O.D.F. has a helicopter making water drops in support of five of their engines, four forest service engines, engines from the Illinois Valley Fire Department and one dozer.

No structures are being threatened and there are no road closures at this time.

At 2:05 pm, a grass fire was reported on Ragsdale and Old Highway 62. Engines, along with an airtanker, two helicopters and a dozer assisted. Airtanker 62 dropped a load of retardant on the left flank while the helicopters assisted in bucket work around the 2 acre fire. The fire burned through dry grass and timber. Crews were able to get the fire 100% wet lined in about an hour. The dozer continues to make progress around the perimeter while firefighters work to put out the active spots in the center.
