More jail beds? Not today

The Josephine County Jail was set to increase the inmate capacity by 39 beds today but it appears that will not likely happen until Wednesday of next week.

Sheriff Gil Gilbertson says the Sheriff’s Office has hired two out of the three jail staff needed for the additional inmates. The third employee will likely be hired Friday.

Additionally, before the new beds can be utilized, the County Commissioners must legally pass a declaration that will increase the jail capacity. Unless a special session is held, this will not likely occur until the Wednesday business session next week.

The 39 new jail beds will bring the jail’s capacity to 99 beds total.
