ODF extinguishes fire near I-5

The Oregon Department of Forestry extinguished a grass fire near I-5 around milepost 40 this afternoon.

A vehicle blew an engine and burning metal scattered across the roadside igniting grass and leaves. The fire burnt a quarter acre before ODF and Jackson County Fire District 3 crews extinguished the flames.

Officials say to prevent vehicle-caused fires a vehicle should be maintained, be properly inflated and have no dragging parts. Drivers should also refrain from smoking and should never drive over, idle upon or park on top of dry vegetation.
