Rollover congests I-5 throughout the day

A semi-truck rollover caused serious traffic issues on I-5 in the southbound lanes for nearly three hours today.

The truck rolled between milepost 50 and 51 sometime in the early morning hours. According to witnesses, cones were placed around the truck and it was left there until crews could begin removing it. Crews arrived and began removing the truck a little before 10:30 a.m. and that is when all the trouble began.

Workers closed the fast lane of I-5 near the accident in order to extricate the truck. By 11:00, traffic was backed up for two miles due the bottleneck created in the roadway. Traffic then came to a total stand still for nearly 30 minutes and started to move again by about 11:37.

Oregon Department of Transportation crews finally had the truck removed at approximately 1:00 p.m. and traffic returned to normal.

An inquiry sent to the Oregon State Police requesting more information about the truck rollover has not been returned.
