Girl struck by vehicle in crosswalk transferred to OHSU

A girl struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk at the intersection of A and Baker streets at 7:39 a.m. Monday has been transferred to a Portland hospital for treatment of the substantial injuries she received.

The 15-year-old girl, Makyla Tessen, was crossing the street in a crosswalk when a black Jeep driven by 20-year-old Cody M. Krauss struck her. According to Krauss and witnesses, speed was not a factor in the accident and the morning sun likely obstructed Krauss’ vision.

Tessen suffered multiple leg, hip, internal and facial injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Three Rivers Medical Center for initial treatment and was subsequently transferred to Oregon Health and Science University where she is reported in serious condition.

Police cited Krauss for failing to stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
