Stopped vehicle causes collision partially blocking Redwood Highway

A vehicle performing an abrupt stop caused a two-vehicle accident on Redwood Highway Sunday blocking one lane for an hour.

21-year-old Anthony David Vaccher of Rogue River was traveling northbound in his 1998 Honda Accord when a white two-door compact slammed on the brakes and came to an abrupt stop in front of him at 3:50 p.m. near milepost 18. Vaccher slammed on his brakes to avoid the collision and his wheels locked as he traveled into the path of oncoming traffic. 65-year-old Michael William Rountree of Selma was traveling in that lane in his 1985 Ford Van and he slammed on his brakes and swerved to avoid Vaccher’s vehicle. The vehicles then glanced off of each other before coming to a stop.

The compact that caused the collision then fled northbound.

One lane of the highway was partially blocked for an hour and no injuries were reported.
