Single Vehicle Crash 6 Miles West of Grants Pass Claims Elderly Man

An elderly man lost his life Sunday morning at about 11:49 when the 2000 GMC Safari van he was driving left Oregon Route 260 six miles west of Grants Pass and hit a tree head on.

According to a release from the Oregon State Troopers the van was west bound with its emergency flashers operating when it crossed the centerline of the roadway, narrowly missing an on coming vehicle. The Safari continued off the road and impacted a tree head on.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and his name has not been released pending notification of the next of kin. He was using safety restraints.

Oregon Route 260 (OR 260) is an Oregon state highway running from the west side of Grants Pass to US 199 near Grants Pass. OR 260 is known as the Rogue River Loop Highway No. 260 (see Oregon highways and routes). It is 20.84 miles (33.54 km) long and runs in a half-loop from northeast to southwest, entirely within Josephine County.
