Rough & Ready Gets Vine Maple Timber Sale

The Illinois Valley’s Rough and Ready Timber Company purchased the 6.75 million board feet Vine Maple at the BLM auction yesterday for the appraised price of $553,553.

Rough and Ready was the only bidder in the auction open only to Small Business Administration qualified firms.

The American Forest Resource Council, a long time industry group based in Portland, filed an administrative protest against the sale contending it violates the O & C act, the 1994 Northwest Forest Plan and the BLM’s Medford district management plan.

The protest will be evaluated by the agency, which will then issue a response. If the protest is rejected the Resource Council could then appeal to the Interior Board of Land Appeals in Arlington, Virginia.

The sale has been supported by the Southern Oregon Timber Industries Association and two conservation groups.
