Firefighters Continue Suppression Effort on Goff Fire

Wednesday firefighters continued efforts to strengthen the containment lines around the northwest corner of the Goff Fire which is located in the Red Buttes Wilderness managed by Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.

The goal is to create a 50 foot deep containment line to help minimize the risk of fire spreading. Late afternoon fire activity increased in the northwest corner of the fire generating a noticeable column of smoke.

Ground crews are coordinating efforts with helicopter water drops to cool down the fire activity. Two crews of 20 firefighters each are camping overnight nearby in order to continue mop up and strengthening of the containment line.

The Goff Fire has now consumed 22,283 acres and the total for the Fort Complex of fires is 23, 658 acres
