Heat and winds threaten to strengthen Goff Fire

Winds traveling 20 to 25 mph and warmer temperatures are threatening to strengthen the Goff Fire despite the blaze reaching 100 percent containment Monday night.

Fire crews are camping in the northwestern corner of the Complex, in the Red Buttes Wilderness, and are being resupplied by helicopter. Crews also continue fire-fighting efforts along the southern perimeter near Highway 96.

A Burned Area Emergency Repair Team will be on scene Thursday to assess erosion control, hazardous tree removal and the spread of noxious weeds.

The Goff Fire burned 22,283 acres total.
