Tribes on Warpath over Casino Plans

The Cow Creek Umpqua Indian tribe that runs the Seven Feathers casino says it will block the attempt by the Coquille Tribe to build a casino in Medford.

The Cow Creek Attorney says Oregon Tribes agreed years ago to limit the number of Casinos, pointing out most of its customers come from Medford and if the Coquille Tribe follows through, the Cow Creek band might make its own move into the Medford Market.

The Coquille Tribe, that operates “The Mill Casino” in North Bend, recently purchased Roxy Ann Lanes and the former Kim’s Restaurant location to ultimately turn them into a casino. According to the 1989 federal restoration act, the Coquille tribe’s service area includes Coos, Curry, Douglas, Lane and Jackson counties.
