Jackson County Fire Fighters Busy with Structure Fires

Three rural structure fires kept Jackson County fire departments busy over the weekend.

Saturday afternoon firefighters responded to Blackwell Road, outside of Gold Hill to battle a blaze that destroyed a home, garage, and vehicle including a prized 1978 El Camino.

An afternoon barbeque went bad for Archie Powers and his girlfriend. Fire units arrived in 12 minutes but whipping winds had fanned the fire to totally engulf the home. Two small dogs perished in the blaze, but there were no other injuries.

An hour and a half later crews were called to Hilton Fuel across from Tolo Tavern. That fire appears to have started in a large composting machine and ignited nearby piles of wood chips. There were no injuries in this incident.

Sunday afternoon at 3:30 Rogue River Fire District responded to a recreational vehicle that caught fire in the 400 block of Rogue River Highway near Gold Hill. There were no injuries but the trailer was totaled and the flames spread to a neighboring out building and fence.

This fire and the Hilton Fuel fire remain under investigation.
