MFD, JCFD 3 Tackle Residential Fire, One Occupant Transported to Hospital
Medford Fire Department and Jackson County Fire District 3 crews were dispatched this morning at 12:33 a.m. to a reported residential structure fire.

Engine 15 arrived at the scene in the 1400 block of Saint Andrew Way in Medford to find a small, single-story residence with active fire conditions. Firefighters encountered heavy fire on a side porch, which had extended into the kitchen area and attic space.

Crews quickly initiated an aggressive attack and completed primary searches of the home. The fire was brought under control within approximately 15 minutes of arrival. Two occupants were evaluated on scene. Mercy Flights transported one patient to the hospital for treatment related to smoke inhalation.

Medford Police assisted by securing the area, ensuring neighbors remained at a safe distance, and temporarily closing the roadway to allow for safe fire operations.

Investigators are currently working to determine the origin and cause of the fire. There were no reported injuries to firefighters.

GP Police Responded to ARCO Vehicle Crash, Driver Cited

Two vehicles got into a crash Sunday night, with one of them flipping upside down and crashing into an ARCO gas station. Dispatch received multiple calls reporting the incident. One caller who wasn't involved reported the crash around 7:03 p.m., saying a vehicle had crashed into the 785 SE 7th Street station. Grants Pass Police responded to the scene. According to the police report, the driver of a Honda was traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on SE 7th Street. As it approached the SE M Street intersection, the driver lost control of his vehicle. He continued to accelerate as he entered the eastbound turn lane on to SE M Street. He attempted to avoid a black Toyota pick-up, but struck the bed, causing his Honda to go airborne, rollover, then crash into the ARCO. Both vehicles and the building sustained significant damage. The driver of the Honda was issued a criminal citation for Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering, and Third Degree Assault. He and his injured female passenger were both transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. The vehicles were towed from the scene.

Eagle Point School District 9 Announced New Superintendent
Eagle Point School District 9 has announced Mr. Jim Helmen as the district’s new superintendent.

Beginning with the 2026 - 27 school year, he will join the EPSD9 from the Vernonia School District, where he has served as superintendent since July 1st, 2022. Mr. Helmen brings extensive experience in educational leadership and student services.

He began his career in Eastern Oregon as a teacher, special education coordinator, and athletic director, and has coached middle and high school athletics for more than two decades. He later served the Clatskanie School District as Director of Student Services and Innovation, 7 - 12 Principal and Vice Principal, and Special Education Director, before becoming superintendent in Vernonia.

Mr. Helmen is committed to supporting all students and strengthening partnerships with families and the community.

Medford City Councilor Launches Campaign for Oregon State Senate
Medford City Councilor and U.S. Navy veteran Kevin Stine has filed for the Democratic nomination for Oregon State Senate District 3.

According to a press release, his campaign will center on steady leadership, educational improvement, and long-term economic opportunity for the Rogue Valley.

Stine said the district needs leadership that understands both local challenges and how to move solutions forward. Strengthening education and Southern Oregon University, as well as addressing housing affordability and opportunity are key priorities for Stine.

He emphasized a measured, community-focused approach to public service, and said he's "ready to represent Southern Oregon with dedication and responsibility."

Stine is a Southern Oregon University graduate who has served 11 years on the Medford City Council and 16 years in the U.S. Navy, including nine years on active duty and seven in the reserves.

Woman Wanted on DUII Warrant Arrested by GP Police
Grants Pass Police arrested a woman wanted on a warrant for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants Saturday.

At 7:27 p.m., the officer contacted and detained Beatrice Gutierrez after gathering intel that she was going to be at a property in the 1500 block of Carnahan Drive. She had an active and serviceable Grants Pass Police Department warrant out for her arrest.

After her warrant was cleared, Gutierrez was taken into custody. She was subsequently transported to the Josephine County Jail where she was lodged.

Temporary Board to Finalize Order of Interviews and Questions at Special Meeting
A special meeting will be held by the Temporary Board of Other Elective Administrative Officers Tuesday.

The board will commence the meeting in the BCC Conference Room at 9 a.m. During their previous meeting, the board said they would finalize the questions that will be asked during the interviews for the vacant Commissioner seats.

Along with solidifying the interview questions, the board will also discuss Veterans Preference for applicants, and assign the order of interviewees. Following other matters pertaining to the application and interview process, the meeting will adjourn.

The public is welcome to attend, but they must abide by the clear bag policy. The meeting will be streamed at www.josephinecounty.gov/livestream.

Wolf Creek RFPD, Rural Metro, AMR Responded to Person Pinned Under Bus
Emergency crews responded to a report of someone pinned under a bus at 7:50 this morning.

Wolf Creek Rural Fire Protection District, Rural Metro Fire, and AMR were dispatched to the 100 block of Coyote Creek Road where they found victim under the rear end of an abandoned school bus.

Crews worked for approximately 45 minutes to extricate the person using lift bags and jacks, due to the inaccessibility for a heavy wrecker. The victim was then transported by AMR to a trauma hospital in Medford with serious injuries.

Driver of Stolen Vehicle Held at Gunpoint, Arrested by JoCo Sheriff's Deputies
Deputies with the Josephine County Sheriff's Office arrested a man after holding him at gunpoint Thursday night.

The suspect driving a stolen white Infiniti FX3 was stopped and held at gun point at the corner of E Hawksdale Drive and Robertson Bridge Road. Upon contact, deputies identified Donald Jones as the suspect.

His Parole Officer was contacted after deputies took Jones into custody. The vehicle was towed from the scene, and Jones was transported to the Josephine County Jail.

He was lodged for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and a detainer requested by his Parole Officer.

Man Lying on Sidewalk throughout Thursday Arrested by GP Police on Parole Detainer
Grants Pass Police conducted a welfare check of a man lying on the sidewalk by Grants Pass Tire Pros throughout Thursday.

At 4:22 p.m., dispatch was notified of the suspect. He had reportedly been sitting and lying on the sidewalk speaking to himself near the 705 Union Avenue business since that morning, possibly around 7 a.m.

The man didn't appear to need medical attention, but he was believed to be under the influence. The caller was concerned and requested a welfare check since the man had been there for so long.

Officers responded and contacted Adam Jansen on the sidewalk. His Parole Officer was contacted and a detainer was requested. Jansen was subsequently arrested. He was transported and lodged in the Josephine County Jail on the detainer.

Britt Releases Second Slate of 2026 Britt Live Concerts
Britt has confirmed a slate of six more concerts for the 2026 summer season.

Performers include country star Jake Owen, indie folk favorite Shakey Graves, Britt first-timers Young the Giant with Cold War Kids & KennyHoopla, jam-band legends The String Cheese Incident, and blues-rock powerhouse The Marcus King Band along with trailblazing artist Ani DiFranco with special guest Valerie June.

Tickets to several Britt shows are already on sale, including KALEO, Bonnie Raitt, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Pink Martini, Los Lobos & Los Lonely Boys, The California Honeydrops, and Jim Gaffigan. Abby's Pizza Suspects Trespassed, One Arrested by GP Police
An employee of Abby's Legendary Pizza reported two people were actively using drugs outside the restaurant.

On Thursday at 10:29 p.m. the employee, while viewing the suspects remotely inside the closed 250 NE Beacon Drive business, called 911 to report the male and female suspects outside.

The employee said the male kept switching his clothes, and that the two of them unloaded their cart all over the place. A request was made to have the suspects removed and trespassed.

Grants Pass Police arrived and contacted the two suspects. Both were trespassed from the scene. One of the suspects, Esther Huston, was found to be wanted on a warrant charging her with Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine.

Officers took Huston into custody. She was transported to the Josephine County Jail where she was lodged.

Hostile Suspect Arrested by JoCo Sheriff's Deputies for Two Warrants
Josephine County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man wanted on two warrants Thursday.

At 12:18 p.m., deputies arrived at a property in the 27000 block of Redwood Highway and detained the suspect, Michael Bellah. He was reportedly extremely hostile to responders at the scene.

Deputies took Bellah into custody. He had two warrants out for his arrest. His Sheriff's Office warrant charged him with Failure to Report as a Sex Offender. An Oregon State Parole Board warrant against Bellah charged him with Felony Parole Violation.

Both warrants were confirmed, and Bellah was transported and lodged in the Josephine County Jail.
