Southern Oregon Prepares for Great American ShakeOut October 15th
Get ready for the Great ShakeOut, the world’s largest earthquake drill, on October 15th at 10:15 a.m.

Join millions of individuals throughout Oregon and across the globe as they practice Drop, Cover and Hold On. This annual event provides an opportunity for people in homes, schools, and businesses to assess their disaster preparedness, improve their emergency safety plans, and practice what to do in the event of a real earthquake.

Woman Cited to Appear for Stealing Dollar Tree Merchandise
Officers with Grants Pass Police cited a woman attempting to steal merchandise from a Dollar Tree.

The suspect was reported to dispatch Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. The manager of the 1200 NW 6th Street store said the suspect was concealing items in her purse valued at $4.50. She walked out of the store, and the manager requested officers respond, and trespass the suspect.

She was identified as Fawn Cromwell by officers who located her down the street in front of the Mini Pet Mart. She admitted to stealing the items, which were returned. Cromwell was cited to appear for Third Degree Theft, then released. She was also trespassed from the Dollar Tree.

GP Police Lodge Man Screaming, Dragging Dog, and Causing Public Alarm in Jail
Dispatch was notified of a man screaming, dragging his dog up and down the street, and causing public alarm Wednesday morning, leading to the suspects arrest by Grants Pass Police.

The caller reported the suspect, who had red hair and was wearing a light colored shirt, was on the sidewalk in front of the NE Terry Lane Arby's at 6:12 a.m. The situation had been occurring since the caller arrived at work.

Officers arrived and identified Titus Bierly as the suspect. His dog exhibited signs of abuse by cowering when approached, and Bierly had a TJ Maxx shopping cart filled with wet blankets, garbage, and perishables.

His actions caused public alarm, and he spilled his belongings along the sidewalk. Units retrieved the perishable and biohazard articles for destruction, with some able to be taken for safekeeping. No physical injuries were observed on the dog, so no probable cause for Animal Abuse was filed.

The dog was transported to the Josephine County Animal Shelter, while Bierly was transported to jail. He was lodged for a charge of Disorderly Conduct, and warned for littering.

Woman Stole Dairy Queen Cake, Lodged on Douglas County Warrant and Theft Charge
A Dairy Queen cake thief was arrested and lodged by Grants Pass Police for the reported theft and an out-of-county warrant.

Dispatch was alerted to the theft at the 610 Redwood Highway drive-thru Wednesday at 3:36 p.m. The suspect had grabbed a cake and walked out of the building, and it was requested she be trespassed and charged with theft. She was reported to be heading northbound on Ringuette Street.

She was soon contacted near Tussing Park by arriving officers and identified as Hanna Fierro-McGarry. According to the police report, she had stolen the $27 cake out of anger for staff not letting her use the restroom at the Dairy Queen. She advised officers where she had placed the cake, and it was recovered.

Police found Fierro-McGarry was wanted on a warrant out of the Roseburg Police Department for two counts of DUII, and Possession of Methamphetamine. She was transported to and lodged in the Adult Jail Facility for the warrant and a charge of Third Degree Theft. Due to a lack of jail resources, she was later released.

GP Police Lodge Man for Violating Downtown Exclusion Order
A man trespassing downtown was contacted and arrested by Grants Pass Police.

The suspect, Ronald Spears, was located Wednesday on the east side of 6th Street near SE H Street. Additional units were requested, and Spears was contacted in an alleyway between H and I Streets around 12:59 p.m.

He was in violation of a previously issued Downtown Exclusion form, and was taken into custody by police officers. Spears was issued a 90 day exclusion order, and lodged in the Adult Jail Facility. His property was logged for safekeeping.

Suspect Located, Arrested for Parole Boar Warrant by GP Police
Officers with the Grants Pass Police Department detained and lodged a man wanted on a warrant Wednesday.

Bobby Jo Swearingen was located in the Purple Parrot on SE J Street around 6:12 p.m. He was contacted by law enforcement and confirmed to have a warrant out of the Oregon Parole Board for Parole Violation due to a weapons offense.

He was promptly taken into custody at the scene, and lodged in the Josephine County Jail, before being transported to another agency.

Rural Metro Crews Dispatched to Overturned Truck in Merlin
A vehicle crash took place today at 8:30 a.m., which dispatched emergency crews to the scene in Merlin.

Traffic was temporarily diverted after an overturned truck was reported on Ewe Creek Road. The crash, which is being investigated by the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, required firefighters from Rural Metro Fire's Merlin Station on Azalea Drive to use a ladder to help the driver exit the cab.

The driver was transported to the hospital by American Medical Response with what appeared to be non-life-threating injuries.

GP Police Arrested Man Wanted on Out-of-County Strangulation, Burglary Warrant
While searching for two men trespassing at CVS, Grants Pass Police apprehended a man wanted out of the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

Wednesday at 7:13 a.m., the manager of the 1642 Williams Highway store called 911 and requested two individuals be trespassed. The two male suspects were behind the store in the loading dock.

One was described as having red hair and a beard, wearing a gray t-shirt and jeans, while the other was wearing a gray and red hoodie, jeans, and was holding a shovel. While attempting to locate the suspects, a man was observed curled up in his shirt outside Safeway.

Upon contact with the man, he had a butter knife in his hand and wouldn't listen to commands. After the officer attempted broken commands in Spanish, the man cooperated, but he would not provide his name. Law enforcement were able to confirm his identity as Fernando Lopez-Aguilar, and learned he was wanted on an active felony warrant.

He was wanted on Strangulation and First Degree Burglary charges, so police took him into custody. Lopez-Aguilar was lodged in jail for his warrant, then transported to another agency according to jail logs.

Convicted Felon Possessing Metal Knuckles Arrested by GP Police, Lodged for Meth Charge
A convicted felon in possession of metal knuckles was arrested by Grants Pass Police for methamphetamine possession.

Officers contacted two individuals at the corner of SE J Street and SE 8th Street Wednesday around 8:37 p.m. One of them, Clint Palomino, was located with metal knuckles in plain view. He was found to be a convicted felon, and a consent search was conducted.

Located on his backpack was a glass pipe, and officers proceeded to arrest Palomino for Meth Possession and Felon in Possession of a Restricted Weapon. He was transported to the Josephine County Adult Jail Facility for lodging.

Man Turns Self In for Assault Warrant, Interfering with Making a Report
Grants Pass Police lodged a man that turned himself in for a felony warrant late Wednesday night.

The suspect pulled up to the police station around 11:18 p.m. in a black Honda Civic. He said he wanted to turn himself in for his Police Department warrant charging him with Assault in the Fourth Degree, and for Interfering with Making a Police Report.

He was identified as Myles Hook and detained. After confirmation of the warrant, he was taken into custody and lodged in jail.

Suspect Located with Meth on ODOT Bike Path, Cited by JoCo Sheriff's Deputies
Josephine County Sheriff's deputies arrested and cited a man after finding him with methamphetamine on an Oregon Department of Transportation bike path.

During a routine patrol of the area this morning at 1:56 a.m., deputies located the suspect, Robert Kostenko with a clear zip bag sticking outside of his sock. The bag contained a crystalline substance that field tested positive as meth.

He was taken into constructive custody but released and cited to appear. He was trespassed from the ODOT bike path.

JoCo Sheriff's Deputies Locate, Cite Woman for Theft after She Ate a Rotisserie Chicken
Dispatch was alerted to a shoplifting report Tuesday, leading to a response from the Josephine County Sheriff's Office.

The assistant manager of a business in the 100 block of Deer Creek Road called 911 saying a shoplifter ran out of the store across the street with stolen items. She was described to dispatch as having brown hair, tattoos on her face, wearing a leather vest, brown shirt, and tan pants.

Deputies were advised, and attempted to locate the suspect on the highway, and two nearby bridges. She was soon contacted at the 76 gas station and identified as Amanda Snow-Tursi. She was trespassed from the store for one year after having consumed a rotisserie chicken. A stolen 6-pack of beer was recovered and returned to the store.

Snow-Tursi was then cited to appear for Third Degree Theft, and released.
