Howard Prairie Resort Yields almost $250k Profit for Jackson County
The Jackson County Roads and Parks Department are reporting the Howard Prairie Resort yielded $670,000 in gross revenues for Jackson County from April through October this year. Minus expenses and amortized investments the county netted $238,517 from the resort.
The county took over the resort when the previous concessionaire failed.
The resort land is owned by the Federal Bureau of Reclamation with the resort run initially by the Johnston family as concessionaires for its first 47 years. The Johnston family turned the resort over to Joel and Holly LeGrande, who defaulted last winter.
The county stepped in to ensure the resort would operate this year, securing an agreement with the Mt. Ashland Association to run the restaurant and store while the county handled the marina and campground.
