Medford Police say an arsonist started three fires and emergency crews responded just after midnight today to the first fire in an alley north of the 800 block of W. 2nd Street.
The first fire burned landscaping at a home at 854 W. 2nd and was quickly extinguished before it could harm the residence.
At 3:04 a.m., police and fire crews responded to the same alley for a different fire about 200 feet away from the first fire. The flames burned a grassy area and wooden fence but once again firefighters prevented it from spreading to nearby residences.
Evidence at the scene showed that a third fire had been started in the alley sometime within the past two weeks.
