Property Tax Bills to be Mailed Tomorrow

The county assessor’s office has announced the 2012-13 property tax statements will be mailed Friday.

If the property taxes are paid in full by November 15th there is a three percent discount. To receive the discount payments must be postmarked on or before the 15th. Taxes may also be paid in three installments due on the fifteenth of November, February, and May.

Generally the assessed value of a property can only increase three percent from one year to the next. In no instance will assessed value be more than the real market value of the property.

Property owners that disagree with the value shown on the bill have several rights of appeal. They may go to the assessor’s office and ask that the value be reviewed. Should the review be unacceptable the owner may appeal to the Board of Property Tax Appeals. Decisions from that board may be appealed to the Magistrate Division of the Oregon Tax Court.

Total tax levies, assessments and fees imposed countywide this year totaled $61,144,504.44, an increase of 1.58 percent from 2011.
