Dog Attack
Police in Medford say a mixed-breed dog that charged a Medford utility worker, then chased and bit a 9-year-old boy, will be put to death.
The dog was one of two captured Wednesday morning with the help of a Taser, a snare pole and a tool for lifting the covers of utility vaults.
Officials say the two dogs escaped from a backyard kennel on Page Street in Medford, and raced through the neighborhood.
A Public works employee was marking utilities in an area near Crater Lake Avenue when the dogs charged at him. The victim fended them off with a pole-like tool used to lift lids on underground utility vaults.
Later, a woman and her 9-year-old son were walking home and tried to return the two agitated dogs to the yard where they belonged. The son turned and ran, and the older dog chased him, bit his arm and shook him before being chased away.
A Medford police officer and an animal control officer captured the animals. It will be checked for rabies at the animal control service before being put down.
The boy who was attacked was treated for his bite wounds and released.
