County Food Bank receives generous donation

The Josephine County Food Bank is the recipient of a refrigerated truck filled with food as part of the donation cooperative from Ford Motor Company, Newman’s Own, Inc., and Feeding America.

This is the eleventh year of the charity cooperative known as the “Partnership for Hunger Relief,” which was created to feed impoverished individuals in rural areas.

Only five trucks filled with food donations are given to county food banks each year.

Josephine County Food Bank Resource Development Coordinator Sam Engel says that the truck will allow pantries in rural areas to save money on fuel by combining trips and the food from the donation will help drastically since donations are down.

The Josephine County Food Bank serves a total of 12,000 meals each month through a network of 10 local emergency food pantries, three soup kitchens and 14 supplemental agencies.
