Driver hits power pole then flees scene

Oregon State Police troopers say that a woman sheared a power pole with her pickup, fled the scene and gave false information when troopers caught her.

Witnesses to the accident say that on Saturday, just after midnight, a Chevy S-10 pickup drove into a power pole shearing it in half and then struck four large trees near the Provolt Store on Williams Highway.

The driver of the pickup, 28-year-old Danielle Maria Ward, fled the scene towards Grants Pass in her severely damaged vehicle.

When troopers stopped the vehicle Ward and her passenger, 20-year-old Evan Reed, provided false information and filed a vehicle theft report. All this testimony was later recanted and Ward admitted to losing control on the curve because she was driving too fast.

Troopers cited ward for reckless driving and second-degree criminal mischief.
