Pedestrian Enforcement Operation Friday Morning near Grants Pass High
The Grants Pass Police Department is conducting another pedestrian enforcement operation Friday morning from 7:30 to 10:30 at the intersection of Northeast A Street and Northeast Dean Drive near the High School. Funding for the operation comes from Oregon Impact.
Authorities remind drivers their responsibility is to stop for a pedestrian crossing a roadway at an un-signalized, marked or unmarked crosswalk; stop and remain stopped for a pedestrian in a crosswalk who is in the same lane or adjacent lane; do not pass a vehicle stopped at a marked or unmarked crosswalk; yield the right of way to a pedestrian on a sidewalk; stop for a blind or deaf person crossing the roadway at any point until they have cleared the roadway; stop for a pedestrian when making a turn at a stoplight.
Police also remind pedestrians they have a responsibility to not cross a signalized intersection showing a “Wait” or “Don’t Walk” signal and obey traffic control devices; not enter the roadway in such a manner as to constitute an immediate hazard. Pedestrians should yield the right of way to a vehicle when crossing the street at any point other than a marked or unmarked crosswalk. A pedestrian tunnel or over-crossing should be used when available and the road should not be used as a walkway when a sidewalk is available plus the pedestrian should stay to the left shoulder of the road if no sidewalk is available.
