E-Cigarettes Subject to same Rules as Regular Cigs on SOU Campus
Southern Oregon University is banning the use of electronic cigarettes in all campus locations where regular smoking is also prohibited.
On-campus smoking is prohibited indoors and within 25 feet of campus buildings, in university vehicles and in other designated areas.
The devices, which use a battery to heat nicotine and create a thick vapor, are unregulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Their side effects are unknown.
The University of Oregon went completely smoke-free in 2012, and e-cigarettes are included in the ban. Oregon State and Eastern Oregon University also have campus-wide bans on regular and e-cigarettes.
