G.P. Council looks to exert local control over medical marijuana dispensaries
The Grants Pass City Council during their Monday workshop directed staff to place an item on a future meeting agenda that would create an ordinance to enforce the location of medical marijuana dispensaries within the city.
The City of Medford spearheaded the movement for local control of the location of dispensaries by either limiting their location within a city’s limits or outlawing them entirely.
State law does not contain any language that gives local authorities any control of the regulation of medical marijuana dispensaries and the issue is currently in front of the state legislature.
Assistant City Manager David Reeves also addressed council about properties the city owns. Of the 194 properties Reeves says, “Virtually every property has some current use.” Three properties are considered not useful for the city in the current or near future and staff are drafting plans to sell those lots. A committee is also being formed between councilors and staff who will look at fragment properties leftover from projects that could be potentially sold.
