Woman Arrested on Warrant and Escape Charge Following Foot Chase Downtown
Grants Pass Police conducted a welfare check on a woman at the Newman United Methodist Church.
She was reportedly under the stairs in the back parking lot of the 132 NE B Street church Thursday evening at 6:47. The reporting party said it looked like the suspect was under the influence of drugs and was swinging her arms around.
The caller requested a welfare check, but the woman fled on foot after realizing arriving officers knew her identity. She continued behind the Powderhorn Cafe and towards Wells Fargo before she was detained at NE F Street.
The suspect, Braylyn McElmurry had an active warrant out for her arrest charging her with Possession of Fentanyl. Her identity was confirmed, and she was promptly taken into custody. Officers lodged McElmurry on her warrant and a charge of Third Degree Escape.
