Suspect Actively Using Drugs outside Former Rite Aid Arrested by GP Police

Grants Pass Police arrested a man Sunday after he was found using controlled substances in front of the former Rite Aid.

At 10:48 a.m., a report came in to dispatch regarding a man actively using drugs via a needle on a bench outside the 931 NE D Street location. Upon arrival, officers contacted and identified Jeffrey McPeake as the suspect.

He denied using drugs but consented to a search of his person. Officers found a contact lens container with a white crystal like substance inside. McPeake told officers the substance was meth.

After officers field testing the substance, proving its presumptive positivity for amphetamines, McPeake's parole officer was contacted. A detainer was requested, and officers took McPeake into custody.

He was transported to the Josephine County Jail where he was lodged for the detainer, and a charge of Meth Possession. The substance, as well as a glass bulb shaped pipe, was logged as evidence.
