Man Sentenced to 40 Months for Assaulting Medford Officer during Traffic Stop

Oscar Flores Jr., 25, pled guilty to multiple charges after assaulting a Medford Police officer during a December traffic stop.

According to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office, Flores was sentenced to 40 months in prison, followed by 3 years of post-prison supervision. His charges include Attempted Assault in the First Degree and Assaulting a Public Safety Officer.

Flores' license was suspended at the time due to multiple driving crime convictions in recent years. When the officer attempted to place Flores under arrest for the crime of Driving While Suspended, Flores ignored commands, tried to flee on foot, and fought the officer, causing the officer’s head to strike the concrete at one point.

The officer sustained a cut to his head as a result. During the struggle, Flores also grabbed for the officer’s gun and taser, but was stopped thanks to holster retention devices and the intervention of citizens who intervened to help subdue Flores until backup arrived.
