ODF Gaining Upper Hand on Lightning Fires and Monitoring for Possible Strikes

The Oregon Department of Forestry continues to engage on the Alder Creek and Hibbard Point fires near Prospect. Both incidents are being held at their original sizes of 2.5 acres and 1/2-acre.

Resources from ODF and the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest continue to completely line the lightning-sparked fires and mop up where possible.

Firefighters are now on the scene of the East Trail Creek Fire, which is located off Highway 227 north of Trail. Crews have lined the entire perimeter of the blaze and have GPS-mapped it at 12 acres. With numerous helicopter water buck drops and two retardant drops from large air tankers, resources on the ground were able to gain the upper hand and are holding all lines.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management has downgraded Level 2 "Be Set" evacuation notices to Level 1 "Be Ready" for the 6,000-block of Highway 227.

According to ODF, all other incidents are no longer active or were found to have no fire. The agencies will continue to recon lightning strike areas with aircraft and the ODF Detection Center is constantly monitoring these locations as well.

If you see smoke, please report it immediately by calling 9-1-1.
