Domestic Assault Investigation in CJ Led to Apprehension of Oklahoma Fugitive
A Josephine County Sheriff's Office investigation into a domestic assault case in Cave Junction led to the apprehension of a fugitive wanted for assaulting a police officer in Oklahoma.
The Sheriff's Office reports deputies responded to the incident in the 100-block of South Sawyer Avenue on Thursday around 10:45 a.m..
Deputies said a woman called 9-1-1 to report that her 34-year-old son had hit her in the face on Wednesday night. The caller told dispatchers her son had returned to the home and was sitting in an old car in their backyard. He had not tried to get back into the house she shares with her husband.
Upon arrival, deputies located the man in a blue sport utility vehicle and he would not cooperate, so a Taser was deployed and he was placed into custody. A routine records check showed that he was wanted on a felony warrant out of Beckham County, Oklahoma, for Parole Violation stemming from a conviction for Assault and Battery on a Police Officer. No other information was available.
The suspect was transported to Grants Pass and lodged at the Josephine County Jail on the warrant plus a new charge of 4th-Degree Domestic Assault for hitting his mother. He was being held without bail pending extradition proceedings that will send him back to Oklahoma.
