GP 911 Communications Center Assisted Brookings and Curry County Last Week
The Grants Pass 9-1-1 Communications Center lent a hand to a neighboring county last week while answering more than 1,100 emergency calls locally.
According to the weekly Facebook post from 9-1-1 Dispatch, a total of 1,120 calls were received between May 2nd and May 8th.
The Grants Pass Police Department received the bulk of the calls with 844 while American Medical Response received 292 and Grants Pass Fire & Rescue got 105.
Rural Metro Fire Department received 50 calls followed by the Illinois Valley Fire District with 18, Williams Fire Protection District with 5, and the both the Wolf Creek Fire Protection District and Oregon Department of Forestry with 1.
In addition to the 9-1-1 calls received, dispatchers answered 392 internal calls and made 511 outbound calls.
The 9-1-1 Communications Center had a unique opportunity to assist two outside agencies on May 5th and 6th when both Brookings and Curry County experienced a phone outage with their 9-1-1 lines. Dispatchers handled calls for those agencies and re-routed the calls to a secondary number to reach them directly.
