Bear Sighted near Table Rock Road and Medford Airport
A Sunday morning sighting of a large black bear roaming in North Medford neighborhoods including inside the airport fence had Police and airport workers on alert searching for the bruin.
The first report to police arrived at 7:19 a.m. Sunday with the bear running toward the Marriot Hotel on Biddle Road. More reports came in during the next ten minutes with sightings near Table Rock Road and Cascade Christian School.
Airport officials had spotted the bear earlier at around 3:20 that morning outside the perimeter fence near the fire station and it then climbed the fence onto the airport grounds. Workers were advised to stay off the tarmac. It was next spotted about seven when it jumped the fence leaving the airport at which time the Medford Police were notified.
A police department spokesperson said the bear has not been seen since, and that bears do occasionally wander into Medford and police keep an eye on them, but rarely take action. The bruins normally leave on their own.
