Judge denies murderer money he allegedly stole from victim
Judge Ray White in Jackson County Circuit Court Tuesday heard convicted murderer 38-year-old Jeffrey Wayne Wheeler argue from Two Rivers Correctional Institution via video feed why he should have several items including $250 cash returned to him that was confiscated when he was arrested.
Wheeler was asking for the cash, clothing, shoes, a suitcase and Alcoholics Anonymous commemorative coins that were on his person when he was arrested for the murder of Jessica Bethany in Central Point in 2011.
Prosecutor David Orr said Wheeler stole the money from Bethany in order to buy a ticket to flee the area but Wheeler insisted he had won it before the murder in a poker game.
Judge White returned most of the items except his shoes, which had blood spatter from the crime and will be kept as evidence, and the $250.
