Sheriff’s deputy performs heroics to save woman
A Jackson County Sheriff’s deputy performed true heroics Saturday around 10:45 p.m. when he quickly entered a burning home in south Medford and rescued a woman and her three dogs.
Officials say Deputy Brendan Dodge was driving by the home when he saw flames shooting from the garage area. Dodge quickly acted and burst through the front door to see if anyone was in the residence. He found an 88-year-old woman, Margret Schwartz, asleep and he rescued her and her animals.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation and the fire was mostly contained to a garage and attic space. The home had no working smoke detectors.
