Jackson County Considers Special District to Fund Libraries
A survey of 500 likely Jackson County voters has lead officials to consider putting a measure on the May 2014 ballot creating a special countywide district to fund the libraries.
Of those surveyed, 52 percent supported creating a special district to fund libraries with a tax rate of 60 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. Thatís $120 annually for a $200,000 home.
A second option exists with the proposal for a South Valley District that includes Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Jacksonville, Applegate and Ruch, all within House District 5. In 2006 a majority of voters in that district supported the library levy, although it failed countywide.
