Medford Severance Package for Fire Chief Released
Medford City Manager Eric Swanson released the full termination agreement for former Medford Fire-Rescue Chief Dave Bierwiler that contained a $71,800 severance package.
According to the statement released by Swanson, the severance package was to head off a potential age discrimination lawsuit saying it was cheaper to pay the outgoing 63-year-old Chief than to be caught up in a protracted court battle.
The city originally declined to release the severance details because both parties signed a non-disclosure agreement meant to keep the termination documents from public view.
The release of the full agreement came as a result of the Mail Tribune making a public information request.
