Search Continues for Possible Drowning Victim
The dive team of Josephine County’s Search and Rescue division searched the Rogue River in the Baker Park and downstream area Saturday in the search for a young man that, according to eye witnesses and callers to 9 1 1, jumped over the railing on the Debbs Potts Bridge on the Grants Pass Parkway Friday night at about 10:20.
According to Cory Krauss, the Deputy Sheriff Coordinator for Search and Rescue, the team felt they completely covered the area and found no victim and no evidence of anyone climbing out of the river was located.
The search continues today with Marine Deputy Ernie Fields, along with Search and Rescue volunteers, continuing the search along the riverbanks.
A Grants Pass Department of Public Safety officer was flagged down Friday night regarding the incident and located a black Huffy Santa Fe mountain bike at the scene along with a pair of men’s blue jeans, a green long sleeve shirt, leather sandals and a yellow Bic lighter.
The possible victim is described as being 16 to 20 years old, 5-8 to 5-10, with a thin build and black hair.
The Department of Public Safety has not released any information regarding a missing person. If anyone has additional information they should contact Public Safety at 541-450-6260.
